Oh Crap...

...I've been tagged a la Deneen. I'm supposed to come up with "6 weird things/habits" about myself and then pick on six other bloggers to do the same. Ok, here goes...
  • I have to be clean before I can get dirty. Meaning that I have to shower before I do any dirty work like gardening, cleaning the house, etc.
  • My house has to be in order before I can do anything fun like crocheting, reading, cooking, etc.
  • When I sleep I have to have some type of sheet or blanket covering my torso even in the summer.
  • Even now I cringe at the thought of stepping on a crack..."step on a crack, break your mother's back", it's juvenile, I know.
  • I can't stand the thought or the sensation of cotton rubbing together. Funny thing about that is it didn't used to bother me and I picked on my friend Morgan because she had the same phobia. I guess that's called karma!
  • I can handle any type of bodily fluids from blood to urine, but anything mucus-y makes me dry heave...and I still want to be a nurse, ha!
Ok, now I'm supposed to tag 6 other folks...since I don't know that many bloggers, if you're reading this consider yourself tagged!

Everybody Salsa!!

what to do, what to do?

Actually it was Foodie Thursday here in my humble abode. I've been picking tomatoes every day since I returned from North Dakota. We froze some, ate some, juiced some, and we still had leftovers. So, I decided to make salsa. Now, I don't just love salsa...I lurve it! I went online and found this recipe and then headed for the supermarket for supplies. Tons of sweat, a frightening amount of blood, and several hours later I had this...

mmm, salsa!!

About an hour later, I had this...

Nevermind the half empty jar...Geof and I couldn't resist a sampling..and yes, it was very tasty. Don't worry, none of the bodily fluids mentioned before made it into the recipe, I promise. I did however learn a few very important things....when sharpening a knife it's best not to use the bone in your finger...and...after chopping jalapenos, wash hands thoroughly and whatever you do DO NOT wipe the sweat from your brow!! My hands are still burning from the peppers. Lesson learned. I must say that the end result was well worth it all.

And just because I'm in a sharing kind of mood, I've decided to share one of the recipes I gathered on my trip up north. My grandma made this while we were visiting and it was uber tasty. Enjoy!!

Easy Cabbage Coleslaw

2 packages Ramen soup, chicken flavored
1 large package premade coleslaw mix (found with the premade salads)
1/2 cup red pepper, chopped
1/4 cup onion, chopped
1/3 cup oil
1/2 cup sugar
1/4 cup dark apple cider vinegar
1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper

2 hours before serving, mix the 2 seasoning packets from the Ramen soup with the remaining ingredients and refrigerate. 15-20 minutes before serving add the following:

crushed Ramen noodles from soup package
1 cup almonds, slivered or chopped
1 cup sunflower seeds
1/2 teaspoon celery seed, optional
