There Goes Peter Cottontail Hoppin' Down the Doily Trail

I crave doilies. I never thought in a million years that would ever want to venture down Doily Lane. I guess I'm maturing in my art. I think I'm ready to tackle a doily or two. I just have to buy some smaller hooks and some thread and I'll be set. Maybe I'll even be daring enough to start a table runner or a table cloth. I would also like to make some curtains for the kitchen and bathroom. I'm not sure I'm quite ready for that just yet.

Well, that's all the fiber blurbs I have for now.

Have A Hoppy Easter!!

Good Deeds Done Dirt Cheap...kinda

Well, I checked the message boards this morning at Crochetville and I saw that my RAOK package arrived safe and sound. Apparently it came at a good time too, because my RAOKee has been having a rough week. I'm so glad I could help brighten her day! I can't wait to do this again.

No Use For A Title

No crochet news to speak of but I did a bit of sewing yesterday. I made some curtains for my son's room from fabric I bought at WalMart. It's tie-dyed with blues and greens. I'm fairly pleased with the way things turned out. Lately, I've been crocheting a baby blanket for some friends of ours. We heard from them the other night and she's due in 3 weeks. I think I can make it. I'm out of the white yarn I'm using as an accent color (they're having a boy so the blanket is blue & white). We're so broke I guess I'll have to go through the change jars so I can get some more. I have an emergency yarn jar just for such an occasion!

I haven't been crocheting as much as I usually do. I've had my mind on other things. I won't go into detail. But, if you have an inquiring mind (and I know inquiring minds want to know) click this button...Image hosted by Photobucket.com

I sent of my first RAOK package a couple days ago. That was a lot of fun. I can't wait to do it again. I still haven't heard if the lucky gal received the package, it shouldn't be too much longer.

For some reason I've been drawn to pineapples lately.....in crochet terms that is. I would love to make myself a shawl using a pineapple motif. Eureka! This is exactly what I see in my head!! Hmmm...the pattern is only $5! Perhaps I'll treat myself when I have moolah to spare.

Well, the kiddo is in serious need of a bath, well, actually a shower. We have no bathtub! He loves taking a shower though. I just hope that he enjoys bathing in a few years as much as he does now. Take care...I'm off to get soaked!

On the Home Front

Tomorrow I will travel to the post office and mail my very first RAOK package! I'm very excited about this. I feel all warm and fuzzy already.
Crochetville has moved to a new home and is up and running. I was a bit unsure about having to learn a whole new board, but it has definitely exceeded my expectations. I enjoy it so much more and I didn't think that was possible.
I mentioned in an earlier post that I wasn't quite sure that I was satisfied with the yarns I had purchased for my spring yarn swap partner. After not looking at or thinking about it for a few days I went through it this afternoon. I'm pleased. I guess I was just on a yarn overload before. My eyes couldn't take much more.
Well, this is the conclusion of this boring post. Sorry it wasn't more exciting. Buy me a digital camera and I'll entertain you with funny pictures. Geesh! That sounded snotty. I take it back. Have a wonderful evening!!
HAPPY SPRING!!!

The Deed Is Done!

UGH!! That's all I have to say about it...well, almost. I went yarn shopping today which is usually a joyous occasion. But this trip was all about buying for my yarn swap partner. I didn't realize how much work is involved. Granted it's pleasurable but kinda hard. I have no trouble shopping for myself. My partner requested yarns in purples and yellows. I thought it would be a piece of cake...ha! Apparently Michael's and AC Moore would rather carry fall colors instead of spring. The spring colors they did have made me want to vomit all over myself! I did manage to get everything I needed but what I have isn't as spectacular as I would like for it to be. I really want my partner to be pleased with what I picked out. I still have the receipt so we'll see. I did have fun fondling all the pretty yarn!

A few weeks ago my husband bought this for me...
I didn't even ask for it but I've been thinking of picking one up myself. I swear sometimes he can read my mind! I don't have the amount of yarn in the colors I'd like to make it, but I've decided to use up some of my stash on a practice run. I would like the practice and my son could use a new blanket. So far I'm about 3 blocks in and I really like how quickly things have been going. Of course I haven't hit the complicated blocks yet.
We awoke to snow on the ground this morning so I know exactly what I'll be doing today!!
HAPPY ST. PATRICK'S DAY!!!!

Rock On, Mister Rogers!!

I was watching Mister Rogers' Neighborhood with my son this morning. I've been watching this program since I was a kid...although not religiously or anything. I've just picked up the habit again since my son has started watching it. Anyhoo, I've always enjoyed it when Mister Rogers would go on a "field trip". Today he visited a friend, I forget her name now, who was a weaver. I was very impressed! The lady demonstrated how she would weave yarn into scarves. She did gorgeous work, too! She had a huge floor loom a lot like the one my great aunt has. I've often thought over the years that I'd like to learn the craft from her, my great aunt Marjorie. She's getting older and more and more frail so time is fleeting. Maybe this summer I'll get my act together. I would have to kick myself in the ass if I let an opportunity like that pass by.

Got Head?

So I was perusing the fabric at WalMart yesterday evening when I received a phone call from my hubby. He says, "Mandi, you just received a package and I'm dying to know what's inside!" He went on to describe the box, telling that it was from a wig company and that the words "foam head" were on there. I knew immediately what it was...I'D BEEN RAOK'd!! At least that's my guess. The foam head was purchased from my Amazon wish list but I couldn't find out who it was that bought it....very sneaky little fairy! So, my husband and I would like to thank you, kind fairy! This is what it looked like when I got it...

note: this is not the actual foam head I received...it is a found picture from cyberspace

Now it has blue eyes, eyelashes, and ruby red lips.....courtesy of my husband. He had a lot of fun with it. One of these days when we get a digital camera I'll share the joy. For now, you'll just have to use your imagination! Thank you again, dear fairy whomever you are!

It's My Birthday And I'll Drink If I Want To!

So today is the 23rd anniversary of my birth. Yay. It feels like a rum & coke kind of night. Actually, it's more like a vanilla flavored rum and cherry pepsi, but I think I can work with that.

I'M FULLED!!

Well, my first fulled project is in the dryer as I type. I'm extremely pleased with the way it came out. I have a few ideas on how I would do things differently next time, but there were no major mishaps. This is the project that I've been working on for the up-coming Stitch N Bitch book devoted to crochet. No pictures available...yet because I have to do it the old fashioned way. Get 'em developed, then haul them to my parents' to use their scanner, then post. My folks live an hour and a half away so personal pics are few and far between. The picture featured in my last post was one that I took in Chimney Rock, North Carolina at a little gift shop. We were visiting my folks last weekend so I got to post some pictures. We'll be down that way again this weekend because my Dad is having surgery on his left stump. Long story short...he's diabetic, lost both legs below the knee because of it, and has to go back to have more taken off the end of one. No big deal, but he'll need help around the house so we're going to the rescue. Yeah, we're good kids.

Every wonder what we look like? Here's my little family...

No, my husband isn't a scary neo nazi although he looks like it. He is bald and beautiful by choice. When I first met him he looked like this...
What can I say? I had a thing for long hair...now I'm partial to baldies!
Here's a picture of what happens when you have a 2 year old and a cat working together...

...the fun never ends!!
That's all for now!
